Maj. Gen. Abdelaziz Jassim Al-Shalal, the Syrian military police chief, has defected to the rebels/opposition forces. In a video statement, he said:
“The army has destroyed cities and villages and has committed massacres against an unarmed population that took to the streets to demand freedom. Long live free Syria.”

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — Former South African President Nelson Mandela was released from a hospital in Pretoria on Wednesday evening, a government spokesman told NBC News.
Can we just ponder on the fact that Nelson Mandela has managed to live 94 years despite all the stuff he had to battle against to become this universally-regarded elder statesman? It’s pretty impressive.

Polls taken since President Obama expressed support for same-sex marriage have shown an astonishing shift in black support on marriage equality. The shift in Maryland is so dramatic that the state may become the first state to actually uphold same-marriage rights in a referendum.
